Based on my research, you can tow a trailer with your 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser, but there are several warranty limitations. The owner's manual I found states to never exceed the gross axle weight rating of your vehicle because of the added weight of the trailer hitch's tongue weight or cargo weight.
In order to comply with the vehicle's warranty, the following requirements must be met:
-The max. frontal area of the trailer cannot exceed 20 sq. ft.
-If your vehicle has a manual transaxle,... view full answer...
The purpose of the stabilizer straps is to prevent the bouncing and jarring that bike racks usually experience when hitting bumps from damaging the hitch. The strap you would want is the Curt Bike Rack Strap, part # 18050.
The reason you want to use a stabilizer strap is that you might twist your the hitch up or damage the frame of your 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser.
If you use the stabilizer strap you would have no problem carrying two bikes on a hitch mounted bike carrier.

The Thule Gateway Pro 3 Bike Rack, part # TH78VR, will fit your 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser.
You will not want to open the trunk or hatchback with the bike rack installed. Opening the hatch or trunk with bike rack installed could cause damage to the vehicle.
If you are planning on using the bike carrier for childrens or womens bikes, I would recommend a frame adapter like the Thule Bike Adapter, part # TH982XT. This frame adapter spans the distance between the seat post and the handle bar... view full answer...
It looks like on a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser convertible, you will have to place the hook on the strap # 18050 in the gap between the body of the car and top of the trunk. You may have to open the trunk to get the hook in place and then close the trunk.
There is no specific place on any vehicle that the strap has to go so long as it is secure. Ideally, you will want it straight across from or slightly higher than where it is connected to the bike rack. This is not always possible though.... view full answer...
As long as you have hitch at the rear of the vehicle that has towing capacities to tow your vehicle and a drawbar with similar weight capacities that has a 2 inch ball you have everything you would need to use a RoadMaster Tow Dolly with Electric Brakes, part # RM-2050-1. This tow dolly comes with electric brakes, safety cables, adjustable axle and ramps, and adjustable wheel nets. Once you assemble the tow dolly you will just need to hitch up the tow dolly to the ball of the drawbar and... view full answer...
This is a common occurrence on many vehicles. Vehicle tail lights have changed over the years and they use less current than they used to. Trailer lights have not progressed as quickly. What could happen with an older traditional harness that does not have the added power source is that the trailer, with the older, less efficient lights and depending on the number of lights, could over draw the tail light circuits on the vehicle causing fuses to blow. Additionally if the trailer were to... view full answer...
The Swagman Race Ready Roof Bike Rack part # S64705 does allow you to lock the bike to the rack but not the rack to the vehicle. That said, I do have a very similar bike rack which will allow you to lock the bike to the rack and the rack to the vehicle. For this, you'll want to use the Yakima FrontLoader Wheel Mount Bike Carrier part # Y02103 with the Yakima Same Key System part # Y07202. view full answer...
Reversing with a tow dolly is a pretty dangerous idea. You will end up damaging the dolly and/or steering components of the vehicle so it's always best to only pull forward when connected to a dolly. If you need to reposition you'd have to disconnect to back up. view full answer...
We have actually had customers ask this in the past and when I contacted Tekonsha about running the power wire on their T-Connector harness, like the # C55532 for your 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser, it is not recommended to connect the hot lead anywhere else than the battery.
The reason for this is that the 12V hot lead that comes with the harness is designed to bypass all of the wiring on the vehicle. The trailer lights will be drawing power directly from the battery which eliminates the chances... view full answer...
I attached a link to the video you referenced that shows the Curt Wiring Harness part # C55532 being installed on a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser. The battery and intake design might be different on your vehicle from what you see in the video but the process will still be the same.
You will need to find the battery under your hood, find the positive battery post (should be marked with a plus sign or the word positive), and then attach the wire to this post through the fuse holder that is included.... view full answer...
The tow hooks are bolted to the frame using the locations that the hitch will use. We have an installation video of a similar hitch, from Hidden Hitch, being installed on a 2006 PT Cruiser. It is a similar installation, there is a portion about drilling that would not apply to the Curt model.
The installer points out the tow hooks and shows how to remove them. He also shows how to lower the exhaust. Make sure to follow the Curt instructions for the C11132 hitch, but you can watch the video... view full answer...
I looked up the online owner's manual for your 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser and it states on pages 340 and 341 that if you have an automatic then it must be towed with all 4 wheels OFF of the ground. If you have a manual then it states the following:
"If your vehicle is equipped with a manual transaxle, it may be towed with all four wheels on the ground, in a forward direction, at any legal highway speed, for any distance, if the transaxle is in neutral."
Typically if there are special instructions... view full answer...

For CURT Class I and II trailer hitches, when you have a non-trailer load such as a bike rack or in this case a cargo carrier, you can use the stabilization strap, # 18050. One end you will loop around the near edge of your carrier. The other end has a hook that will fit at the top of the rear hatch in the space between the roof and the hatch on your 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser. The strap needs to be snug but be careful not to over tighten the strap. view full answer...
